Yes, I helped set up the ANU's Zero-Carbon Energy for the Asia-Pacific Project: https://www.anu.edu.au/research/research-initiatives/zero-carbon-energy-for-the-asia-pacific

This project is researching how to collect renewable wind and solar energy from northern Australia and ship it overseas. The simplest way is solar panels and a cable, as with Sun Cable, but there are other options. For example a synthetic fuel can be made, or ore refined and the energy exported embedded in the product.

One difficult issue is engagement of the indigenous community who own the land on which the energy would be collected. Another is the energy policy of the customer countries, so they can receive and buy the energy. https://blog.highereducationwhisperer.com/search/label/Zero-Carbon%20Energy%20for%20the%20Asia-Pacific%20Project

ps: One option the project is not yet exploring is to export energy embedded in bits, from renewable powered data centers in northern Australia. Any companies interested in funding that?
