Hi, You can give the following three commands to install linphone 3.9.1 sudo apt-add-repository ppa:linphone/release sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install linphone As far as the web site goes, see below.
They seem to refer one to a place where one is suppose to be able to install through some software called flatpack, but flatpack did not compile on my linux. When trying to compile linphone from the git source code, I ran into an error envolving antler, some sub component required by linphone.

Hello. In seeking to install Linphone on this computer, running UbuntuMATE 16.04, I found the version of Linphone that is available in the Software Centre repository, is 3.6.1-2.5 . On the Linphone web site, is the web page at http://www.linphone.org/desktop-4.0/ which has a circular (keeps going around in loops) link for Linux; the link goes to http://www.linphone.org/technical-corner/linphone/downloads which has, as the link for downloads, http://www.linphone.org/#downloads , which has a link for version 4, which goes to http://www.linphone.org/desktop-4.0/ which has a circular (keeps going around in loops) link for Linux; the link goes to http://www.linphone.org/technical-corner/linphone/downloads etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. So, I am wondering whether a version 4.x of Linphone exists for Linux; especially, for Ubuntu Linux. Thank you in anticipation. -- Bret Busby Armadale West Australia ..............
