Not on Android, but I had exactly the same problem when they changed the interface. You will probably have an icon consisting of a 3x3 grid. I think that there may be a setting under preferences for Chat and CAlls or some such. You have to turn off automatic show or some such. Otherwise you only get the icon under odd circumstance when actually making call.
