First heard from Rick Poleshuck at Thoroughbred Software (now running
http://www.rpacorp.com/).

The formal statement escapes me, but the informal definition goes
something like this:

"Sure we're not doing everything right, but then, no one else is,
either. That's why we're still in business."

(We were doing porting work within Thoroughbred's Business BASIC
interpreter at the time.)

I have searched in Google and altavista and I can't find any reference to
"Poleshuck's Law of Competition". Could you quote or provide an
authoritative reference? :-)

Thanks!
Dennis

[snip]
... I'd almost recommend Lotus Notes (despite a
lack of s/390 Linux server S/W just now) but it's the worst
example of groupware on the planet- except for ALL OF THE
OTHER groupware packages. Poleshuck's Law of Competition still
        applies.
