I've used Object Rexx under OS/2 and WinNT to link Oracle and a 3270 application.  
Object
Rexx is a quantum leap in functionality from classic Rexx.

It's a terrific intro to OOP -- unfortunately not much of a resume credential.  With
Mod_Rexx providing an Apache interface, it looks like a fantastic web tool.

NetRexx can be called a variant of Object Rexx that translates into Java and can use 
and
be used by all the Java Class libraries.

Pipeline fans will be happy to learn that there is a NetRexx package that does most of
it.
