If you have a lot of systems you probably don't want to run that same process on each of them (and keep all the stuff on each of them - you need a lot more to build packages than you need to run them). In an area where you have test and production systems it can be attractive to have your new version packaged in a way that you can promote it to the production servers in an easy way. Rob
