I was just wondering if _I_ might have caused the decline.  I pointed out (and I'm not 
sure on
which list - I think IBM-MAIN) that Autoreplies may undo the prudence of a lurker by 
giving
away the fact that they're subscribed to the list, even when they never posted.  Some 
people
may have decided to preserve the safety of their anonymity by browsing the archives 
rather
than receiving the emails.

In the case of one list, I 'subscribe' by downloading the web pages with Teleport Pro
and stripping them using REXX.
