Alan forgot your most expensive requisite - a VM sysprog. If the
number of instances and their performance footprint is not critical you
can probably get away with gypsies for a while. Likewise since you are
already running a MF you probably have VSE or z/OS sysprogs -- the
hardware is going to be the same but there are MAJOR conceptual
differences between those OS's (which are conceptually related to each
other) and VM. If you plan to train one of your other OS sysprogs to do
part time VM sysprogery, pick one who learns new things easily and do
not skimp on his training! OTOH right now you can probably get a good
deal in the used market...
