I depends on how long you're willing to wait.  I myself just tend to do a
"killall -1 smbd nmbd" if I'm in a hurry.  Other than that, Samba will
figure it out on its own, after a while.  No need to restart it.

Do you really need to restart Samba?

In my experience (and according to the documentation), Samba sees that
smb.conf
is altered and reprocesses it without intervention. Despite this, I
regularly
read the advice "restart Samba."
