"In a move to boost hardware revenue, Terra Soft is now shipping Apple computers with Yellow Dog Linux preinstalled. The custom-configured, stand-alone units retain the full Apple warranty although they come with Linux.
The company is offering the Linux machines, it says, to save users the trouble of initial installation and configuration -- which can be a fairly complex process. Terra Soft hopes the preinstallation strategy will boost use of the open source platform among corporate and scientific Mac users. "This is something we have been looking forward to for a long time," said Troy Vitullo, internal systems engineer at Terra Soft.
