In trying to get to 2.4.17 (again), one of the developworks recommended patches
for the may2002 stream says we need glibc-2.2.5:

glibc-2.2.5.tar.gz (see www.gnu.org/software/libc)
glibc-linuxthreads-2.2.5.tar.gz (see www.gnu.org/software/libc)
glibc-2.2.5-s390-may2002.diff (IBM)
glibc-2.2.5-s390-1-may2002.diff (IBM)

So I obtained glibc-2.2.5 and glibc-linuxthreads-2.2.5.
The configure for glibc-2.2.5 STRONGLY recommends installing linuxthreads (yes,
I started the install glibc b4 linuxthreads) before continuing.

The install for linuxthreads says "Edit the Makefile, set the variables in the
"Configuration" section." Of course, there is no configuration section and if
one moves on to the make, the makefile tries to include files from .. - without
cd'ing anywhere first, pretty much guaranteeing that will fail.

This is my second attempt, and usually after a major failure, I get pretty
careful about making sure I get all the packages and get all the patches applied
in the right order, etc. I don't count trying to install glibc first careless,
because nothing really told me to do otherwise, in fact developworks lists doing
glibc first, so...

Has anyone really ever seen this work?
