It seems that the people most interested in Linux at the small and medium end are 
users of a
*nix who are worried that their OS vendor might have an uncertain future, rather than
Microsoft users.  Even Sun is now playing footsie with Chipzilla.  One problem you 
have when
talking to these people about server consolidation is the sheer variety of 
environments they
have - not just multiple vendors but mutually incompatible systems from each.

In this context Linux could act as a kind of 'level set' or positioning move prior to
consolidation.  Virtual servers (in our speak, VM guests) are an easier concept to 
sell.

This kind of '101' explanation of how VM and LPARs work is cropping up time and again. 
 Once
it hits the in-flight magazines ...
