We are currently doing a trial of FCON/ESA.  Not having experience with
other VM performance tools, I still like what i see.

when using more than one dasd volume in a volume group, make sure they are
striped. (ie if there are five 3390-9's in a vg, when adding logical
volumes, make a stripe size of five)

here are some of our settings.  use at your own risk.  this is on a 2gig
guest. we are still playing with these.

sga_max_size=912m
db_block_size=16384
disk_asynch_io = false
(note: sles7 does not support asynch io.  my understanding is that oracle
supports the asynchronous io in sles8 -- when it passes the cert tests)
dbwr_io_slaves = 4 (this is to make up for the lack of asynch io)

read the supplemental release notes that come with the linux/390
installation.
