thanks for your feedback. >Since PAV is not going to be turned off (great z/OS performance >improvements), Linux needs to be PAV tolerant, even if it does not take >advantage of it. Linux is PAV tolerant. It just won't be able operating any alias devices in LPAR - if this is all you want/need no further support is required (you may get some annoying messages during IPL/boot about devices becoming not operational, though :-( So is Linux exploitation beyond toleration "very important to you" ? If yes, do you have more details about your workload profile ? What I'm interested in is to learn what limitations people observe exploiting Linux striping support that could potentially be overcome by additional (or alternative) PAV exploitation. I'm not looking for constructed scenarios (this is not meant as a response to your mail, but I perfectly understand those) but real workload you folks run in your shops. All of our DASD is PAV enabled. It was enabled last December. All of the Linux instances that were already running have been OK, but I have to jump thru hoops to get a new instance created. I'm also concerned about lack of support should one of our production instances somehow decide not to boot because of PAV. Since PAV is not going to be turned off (great z/OS performance improvements), Linux needs to be PAV tolerant, even if it does not take advantage of it. I'll be pointing our IBM SE to this discussion as well. Thanks, Jim Ingo Adlung wrote: >>Some time ago, there is a discussion about PAV and Linux/390 in the list. >>The last thing that i can remember it is Linux/390 can't be loaded from >>PAV volume.
