Chris, 1) If you use DirMaint, the backup directory is a flat file on DIRMAINT 1DB. The systems programmer usually sets up one or more userids that can link to other minidisks without using a link password. 2) If you back up your directory, restore it to another disk that you can link to. 3) Does your stand-alone test system use a copy of the production system? If so, check the directory there.
