Not have a strong background on the Z Platform I wonder if the team might
have some feed back regarding the following topic.

Our DBAs have been approached with a dilemma. It seems that they can
acquire larger Sun servers to accommodate two new Databases or they can
investigate the option of placing these new images under Z/Linux,
specifically SLES8 with Z/VM 4.4.

The limited information I have regarding the DB follows:

SGA 2.0 GB each. (two databases are required)
Purpose: Development usage

Current Z/Linux configuration:
1 IFL
2 GB of Physical Memory
Currently have 2 SLES 8 guests running OpenLDAP 2.x server services
1 GUEST for WEBSPHERE Portal development (rarely used)
1 GUEST for WEBSPHERE 5.0 Development and testing (rarely used)
1 GUEST for my development and test work (rarely used)
1 GUEST for "GOLD Image" development

I need to understand if I will be able to start these databases on this
system, as many probably know Oracle will not start its databases if the
memory is not available. I also need to understand if I will run into
problems with creating additional guests in the near term? If it is
believed that these databases would run in this configuration what size
should I allocate to these guests to start? Should there be a dynamic
high memory allocation, if so what?

I have the DBAs reading the Red Paper now on Oracle 9i under Z/Linux.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

thank you!
