Two of the users were reporting response time problems during this time;
one guy said flat out that when the other guy got on, his stuff ground
to a halt.

If I'm reading "vmstat" correctly, we're not swapping; in fact, the
cache size looks reassuringly large. However, we seem to have several
Java-intensive processes going on, based on talking to users.

Do I replace the file system with one that's not ReiserFS, or what? Is
the JVM max heap size somehow tunable?
