Adam,
You will also need to install module-init-tools, this installs 2.6
compatible
versions of insmod et al.   Other then that a woody upgraded to sarge
system is fine. (also be aware of the grouped devices for your
network interfaces)

Probably not.  Still, would it matter in the initial IPL?  I can't find
the root device, whether I call it /dev/dasd/0.0.0150/part1 or
/dev/dasd/0150/part1 (which is what it was before).  The IPL record
shows the new kernel paramters when I boot.

This is a Debian system, installed at woody, and then apt-gotten
dist-upgraded to sarge, with a 2.6.5 kernel built with virgin sources
plus the IBM fixes.
