Check the ssh config in /etc/ssh/sshd.config and make sure: PasswordAuthentication yes

On my laptop, however when I use putty, I get 'access denied'. I can't find any logging of the error whatsoever, either on the server or on the PC. It doesn't matter whether I'm trying to logon to root or another user. I can use the same putty on my laptop to five other Linux systems here with no problem. I've done the usual Googles on this, and there are dozens of instances of the same problem, but no one ever posts the solution. I hate it when that happens. Has anyone had the same problem?
