Hi, we have had the 'network disappear' problem for 3 times. I was told by ibm that this can occur when using more than 1 virtual cpu (this was true in our case). Our single cpu systems ran without this problems. There is still an open APAR VM63685 for this kind of problems. A fix is to set QIOAssist OFF .We have done this and the network problems disappear.
After this problems I started to install 2 linux clone machines - one with 2 devices and one with 3. The FORMAT in parallel during installation worked fine (even with 3390-9 dasd). I hope this information is usefull to you. I found out the it was a QIOAssist problem. For some reason it was turned ON but I do not know why! I have a ticket open with IBM to determine why it was on. Thanks Tom. What kernel version are you running? There have been some fixes for the qeth network driver since SuSE GA. Do you have qdio assist activated? If yes, have you applied z/VM PTF UM31341 (available since 05/01/21)?
