Final Meeting Agenda:

9:00 AM Architecting VM and Linux for WebSphere

An introduction to setting up an infrastructure that will allow WebSphere
applications to run efficiently on Linux for zSeries. This infrastructure
consists of LPARs running VM, running multiple Linux guests, each running
WebSphere, running your applications. This presentation tells you how to
start setting up such an architecture, how to make these parts work
together optimally, and how to allocate memory between all of the systems
involved.

The speaker will be Mr. Stephen Wehr of the IBM Corporation.

10:30 AM Coffee Break

11:00 AM How to install WebSphere once and share it among many Linux
guests

One of the strengths of zSeries as a platform for Linux is the ability to
manage many Linux images centrally. But as the number of Linux images
grows, some of the typical problems of large server farms emerge. Software
installed on the Linux images must be serviced or updated, and there is no
way to do this other than servicing each image as if it were a standalone
server. But zSeries has the ability to share file systems as VM minidisks,
so there ought to be a way to install WebSphere once and use that
installation for many other Linux images. Attend and find out how.

The speaker will be Mr. Stephen Wehr of the IBM Corporation.

12:30 PM Lunch Break

1:30 PM Administration and Vendor Announcements

1:45 PM New IBM Systems and Storage Management Tools for z/VM

With the continued growth of z/VM and Linux on zSeries, the need for
systems and storage management tools on z/VM grows as well. Come hear what
IBM announced this year for tape management (including integration with
DFSMSmm on z/OS) and backup and restore services. You'll also gain some
insight into what might be coming soon. One of the developers will also be
on hand to address technical questions.

The speaker will be Ms. Tracy Dean of the IBM Corporation.

3:15 PM Coffee Break

3:30 PM Planning for the Worst: Disaster Recovery for z/VM and
Linux/390

The emergence of Linux/390 on z/VM has brought new interest to the z/VM
platform. One of the first tools you need when deploying Linux on the
mainframe is a reliable disaster recovery solution. Historically, z/VM
installations have used expensive vendor solutions or complicated and
difficult to maintain DDR implementations. This session covers why you need
to have a disaster recovery plan, what needs to be in it, with options for
implementation, including an overview of Safe Software's newest product:
SafeDR. A cost effective, turnkey z/VM disaster recovery solution.

The speaker will be Mr. John Hall of Safe Software.

4:45 PM Free-for-All

Members will attempt to answer any reasonable VM or hardware related
questions. If you are having a problem and want to find out if others are
experiencing it, or you are installing new hardware or software and want to
find out what types of problems others have experienced, here is the place
to find out.

5:45 PM Annual CAVMEN Reunion

We will be holding the Annual (by popular demand) gathering of current and
former CAVMEN members after the regular meeting.

We will once again meet at The Portofino Italian Bistro in Vernon Hills. It
is located off of Route 60, just West of Milwaukee Avenue (Route 21),
approximately six miles from our meeting location. Cocktails, appetizers,
and dinner will be available.

Click <http://www.portofinoitalianbistro.com>here to see Portofino's WEB
site, which contains a map, and menu information.

If you are driving a long distance, there is a hotel within walking
distance of Portofino's. The Hawthorn Suites Limited, 975 Lakeview Pkwy,
Vernon Hills, IL 60061-1442, (847) 367-8031. When you call for a
reservation, be sure to mention that you are attending a function at
Portofino's in order to get the best rate.

If you plan to attend the reunion at Portofino's, PLEASE send a SEPARATE
E-Mail to <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>[EMAIL PROTECTED] with a Subject line
of "Annual Reunion" so that we can anticipate the turnout.

Mark your calendar now!

Members are encouraged to bring ideas for future presentations and speakers
to this meeting.
