We are in the midst of a disaster recovery exercise. One of the Linux guests is not coming up after failing fsck check. Nor would it let me do it manually as it says the partition is mounted rw. I can unmount and run the fsck. On re-boot, the problem recurs. The root partition is formatted as reiserfs and fails fsck. At this point no other partition is mounted. df shows duplicate root partitions - exactly the same geometry. Back at the ranch, everything looks good. I even restored the guest as of the beginning of May to a second level and it comes up without problems. The only thing I can think of is to bring up another guest with its own root partition and other partitions from this sick guest.
If anyone encountered and recovered from this I would appreciate it. Somehow I can not think how the environment, VM or anything else could affect what is inside Linux. The guest directory looks like this.... (Note the 100x minidisks were added to created a volume group). There is no NFS or any other fancy mount here. 150 - swap, 151 - root, 152 - boot, 153 - usr, 154 - var, 155 - local , 156 - opt USER ZLP1 ZLP1USER 01131634 INCLUDE LINDFLT 01131634 * SWAP FILE 01131634 * ROOT 01131634 * BOOT 01131634 * USR 01131634 * VAR 01131634 * OPT 01131634 * LOCAL 01131634 01131634 * --------- allocating from LIN030 - LIN034 (5 VOLS) ------- 01131634 01131634 MDISK 0191 3390 1 50 LIN030 MR 01131634 MDISK 0150 3390 51 100 LIN030 MR MINIOPT NOMDC 01131634 MDISK 0151 3390 151 1500 LIN030 MR 01131634 MDISK 0152 3390 1651 50 LIN030 MR 01131634 MDISK 0153 3390 1 2500 LIN031 MR 01131634 MDISK 0154 3390 1701 1200 LIN030 MR 01131634 MDISK 0155 3390 2501 600 LIN031 MR 01131634 MDISK 0156 3390 2901 100 LIN030 MR 01131634 * * ------ set up as logical volumes * ----- these will be used by /home 01131634 MDISK 1001 3390 0001 1000 LIN032 MR 01131634 MDISK 1002 3390 1001 1000 LIN032 MR 01131634 MDISK 1003 3390 2001 1000 LIN032 MR 01131634 * ----- these will be used by /usr MDISK 1004 3390 0001 1000 LIN033 MR 01131634 MDISK 1005 3390 1001 1000 LIN033 MR 01131634 MDISK 1006 3390 2001 1000 LIN033 MR 01131634 * MDISK 1007 3390 0001 1000 LIN034 MR 01131634 * MDISK 1008 3390 1001 1000 LIN034 MR 01131634 * MDISK 1009 3390 2001 1000 LIN034 MR 01131634 * ---- /tmp ------- MDISK 1010 3390 3101 0238 LIN030 MR 01131634 * MDISK 1011 3390 3101 0238 LIN031 MR 01131634 * ----- /usr MDISK 1012 3390 3001 0338 LIN032 MR 01131634 MDISK 1013 3390 3001 0338 LIN033 MR 01131634 * MDISK 1014 3390 3001 0338 LIN034 MR 01131634 *DVHOPT LNK0 LOG1 RCM1 SMS0 NPW1 LNGAMENG PWC20041207 CRC1 __________________________________________ Ranga Nathan / CSG Systems Programmer - Specialist; Technical Services; BAX Global Inc.
