That's it, it works, altho for SuSE9, it uses different command sets: chccwdev -e 0.0.1200 /*set it online; adds it to /proc/dasd/devices */ echo 1 > /sys/bus/ccw/devices/0.0.1200/readonly I never can find any documentation on this (re. the "readonly").
