Actually, all you need to do is activate the device, format it and get it where
you want it, then run mkinitrd and zipl, and it will be available in the
following boot.

If you manage to mess up enough that you can't get to the yast2 menus (like I
did this morning), the command to activate a new device is chccwdev -e
0.0.ccuu. Once you have it activated, run mkinitrd and zipl, then reboot.

That's the piece I cant find in the 2.6 kernel device drivers manual is how
to specify the command and where. I read the section on zipl in
SC33-8281-00 and while I see a lot of stuff about SCSI boot and SCSI Dump
stuff, and even boot menu stuff, but alas nothing talking about specifying
DASD on the command line or config file.

Is there a more complete set of documentation on zipl/zipl.conf than the
device drivers features and commands manual ?

Yes. Put it in the command line entry in /etc/zipl.conf and rebuild
your initrd.

Is there a way to specify the dasd devices you want the guest to know
about at IPL like there was in SLES8?
