How did you download it?  I always use wget, and it doesn't have DOS
line endings in it.

You are right. I downloaded it from linuxvm.org and got that too:
./mksles9root.marks.sh
: bad interpreter: No such file or directory

It looks like some DOS turds got in there somehow:
# od -x mksles9root.marks.sh | head -1
0000000 2123 622f 6e69 622f 7361 0d68 230a 0a0d
                                             ==
