Do remember that in single-user mode your console is not very
practical for doing things in Linux.

My experience is that for most situations where you would boot a Linux
PC in single-user mode, with Linux on z/VM it is much more attractive
to use another running Linux virtual machine to link to the dead
server's disks and do whatever you need to do there (e.g. fix network
address, repair file system, etc).
