I'll echo that. There really needs to be a "absolute minimum" install that is the equivalent of a headless pizza-box with a serial console, disk, network and ssh-only. Another thing that would be mucho useful is a simple line-mode script to configure a network interface via prompts (suitable for J. Random Luser use from the 3215 console) when someone bollixes up their network config and can't get to the guest over the network. Tru64 used to have a really nice one (I think it also made it to HP/UX).
