If Websphere is required for and comes with HATS for the sole purpose of
running HATS, then any support for that WebSphere falls under the
purview of supporting HATS, NOT WebSphere.

We have looked at it.

I have brought up the concern that:

1. We are looking at Websphere HATS. With this license of Websphere, it is
not a full blown Websphere, but we would still need to support it.
2. We also have requests for the Oracle Application Servere product that
includes the Java platform. As this project is going to be developed in house,
the Java platform should be able to be any one.
3. And we have looked at Jboss. Free is good. However there is no such thing
as a free lunch. There could be heafty support costs, either in dollars or
local people.

I don't think it is wise, but I'm often wrong, to have all three Java platforms
on the mainframe IF it is not dictated by the applications.

As we seem to be going to get HATS, and HATS only runs on Websphere, I think it
would be wise to get the full license to Websphere and standardize on that
platform.

And that comment, brought everything to a halt. Been that way for a year. No
money available in the previous fiscal year, and still don't know about his FY
(started July 1 2007).

So, yes, we may go to Jboss, just because we can do something quicker. But I
do fear that we will end up with 3 Java platforms on a single IFL on our
z/890....or at least try to have all three.
