Well, you can run multiple dasdfmt commands in parallel (which is an option YaST lets you choose during install). CDL lets you create partitions on the disk, which means the "fdasd -p" command works. The FBA DASD driver is being deprecated for "native FBA devices." Using the DIAG driver to access them will still be supported, as will FBA emulated SCSI devices via z/VM minidisks. By default, dasdfmt uses a 4K block size, so no difference there. Other than that, I can't really think of any significant differences. >From my perspective, CDL is a better choice simply because of the partitioning capability.
