The default value is going to depend on which version of the IBM patch is 
currently integrated into your distribution's kernel.  It's flip flopped a 
little bit over time.  According to the "Device Drivers, Features, and 
Commands" manual on developerWorks, you turn it on and off via a kernel 
parameter:
cmma=on
cmma=off
