Nope, not a dumb question at all....I think just about everyone that's done any signifi9cant work on Linux running under z/VM via the 3270 console has done this at least once....:-)

Since there is no way to enter a CTRL-x command from the 3270 (it's architecture doesn't permit such things), the best thing to do is log onto your Linux guest via SSH (or Telnet, if your site doesn't use SSH) discover the PID of your running "cat > testfile" process, and then issue a "kill -9 <pid>" to stop it.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

This is probably a very dumb question but how do I enter a SIGQUIT
(usually CTRL-D) when using linux from a z/VM 3270 console??!

I've done a "cat > testfie" and now I can't stop writing to
testfile!!! :-|

I'm obviously missing something very simple here...

Cheers,
