Hi Pieter,
We are considering Linux on z9, and I noticed you mentioning the overhead of
VSWITCH LACP - which we are planning to use. Do you have some detailed
information on this overhead? Is it affected by SET PORT GROUP INTERVAL ?
Any information would be gratefully received :-)

Hi Lee,

observations?

Yes, we are. Using a DS8300 for disk storage, a TS3500/LTO3 for primary tape
pools and a TS3310/LOT4 for copy pools and a 4x GbE LACP OSA bundle. It is a
completely automated environment with the two tape libraries at different
locations. We are moving around 5TB of incoming client backups a day. For
attaching the I/O we use 6x FCP 4Gb and could use more in the near future.

I agree with David lots of cpu is involved. In our case something like 1,5
z9 BC IFL for most of the day. The main problem there is the inefficiency of
TCP/IP communication, not the TSM system per se or the FCP based I/O. I have
spent several bouts with Rob vd Heij of Velocity trying to improve on the
communication. Our last change was abandoning the LACP VSWITCH for native
LACP bonding within the Linux guest due to the very large overhead of the
VSWITCH.

Feel free to ask if you want to know more details.

Best regards,
Pieter Harder
