I just ran some tests, and these messages lead me to believe you're using the tapeipl.ikr kernel. For whatever reason, that doesn't seem to work on Hercules, and you need to use the vmrdr.ikr kernel. (Yeah, I know, it seems backwards.) I typically just copy the suse.ins file, and modify it to point to the parmfile I want to use.
