Dear all, I would like to know if somebody had already encountered a similar problem with SLES 11 under z/VM.
The configuration is z/VM 5.4 and SLES 11 installed. The VM is used as installation server. I wanted to make this as a quick stability check of SLES 11. The DASD where I put the DVD images is a LV formatted with ext3 spanning three 3390-25. In principle everything works fine. So I can use the LV. However when I want top copy the iso image into the installation server directory with Yast, I receive a lot of the following error messages in the syslog: Jul 22 20:13:55 test1 kernel: dasd_erp(3990): 0.0.0230: Command Reject - Fatal error Jul 22 20:13:55 test1 kernel: dasd(eckd): I/O status report for device 0.0.0230: Jul 22 20:13:55 test1 kernel: dasd(eckd): in req: 000000000204c970 CS: 0x00 DS: 0x02 Jul 22 20:13:55 test1 kernel: dasd(eckd): device 0.0.0230: Failing CCW: 000000000204ca68 Jul 22 20:13:55 test1 kernel: dasd(eckd): Sense(hex) 0- 7: 80 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 Jul 22 20:13:55 test1 kernel: dasd(eckd): Sense(hex) 8-15: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 Jul 22 20:13:55 test1 kernel: dasd(eckd): Sense(hex) 16-23: 00 00 00 00 46 00 0f 00 Jul 22 20:13:55 test1 kernel: dasd(eckd): Sense(hex) 24-31: 00 00 40 e0 00 00 00 00 Jul 22 20:13:55 test1 kernel: dasd(eckd): 24 Byte: 0 MSG 0, no MSGb to SYSOP Jul 22 20:13:55 test1 kernel: dasd(eckd): Related CP in req: 000000000204c970 Jul 22 20:13:55 test1 kernel: dasd(eckd): CCW 000000000204ca60: E7400040 0204CB70 DAT: 00800c00 46000000 00000000 40c00000 00000000 504c0002 504c0005 00000000 Jul 22 20:13:55 test1 kernel: dasd(eckd): CCW 000000000204ca68: 47400010 0204CBB0 DAT: 06800020 504c0002 504c0002 0aa71000 There are also block I/O error messages too. The install directory is then corrupt and the e2fsck reports errors in the file system. To me, it seems that there are problems in case the LV receives a lot of I/O requests. I have opened a Service Request at Novell but up to now I don't have any response yet. Does somebody has observed the same problem?
