Hi, Stephen.

That sounds feasible.....

1) ATTach the minidisk to the Linux guest
2) bring it online via the chccwdev command
3) mount it someplace in the directory structure, say, /media
4) do the backup, via tar or perhaps dd

Of course this assumes two things:

a) the minidisk already has a Linux file system on it
b) the minidisk is big enough to contain the data being backed up.

Is there anything specific that concerns you?

Happy Holidays.

I would like to be able to attach a minidisk to a Linux virtual machine,

coud detach it.

This would be the same as on a physical server. Plugging in a USB drive
and backing the server up to it. That is something that many PC linux
users do.
