DASD Disk Management stated that they were formatted...requested it to format 
them again.

Okay reallocated (partitions, Volume Groups, Logical Volumes and mount points)

Not sure why this is, but on the "Installation Settings" one item is in RED:

"Creating volume group VolGroup00 /dev/dasda3 /dev/dasdb1 /dev/dasdc1 
/dev/dasdd1"

(It would let me add either the dasd or the partition to the Volume Group, I 
tried the single partition from each dasd.)

But it did start installing...

you should have selected the dasds, then activated them, and FORMATed them.
