Folks:

A few of you may remember me lamenting the unavailability of low cost
z/VM hobbiest installations a while ago.

Turns out there's a company trying to commercialize the Hercules
emulator, although not precisely for my pet usecase. Said company asked
IBM to license z/OS and z/VM for Hercules and (surprise surprise) got
turned down. This apparently got blown a bit out of proportion by some
of the more strident open source community members.

A fairly good review of these events can be found at the (quite good)
news site, Linux Weekly News, at this URL. I hope you find it of
interest. http://lwn.net/SubscriberLink/382350/3f5c17387abb8f32/

Disclaimer: I've no relationship with LWN other than a satisfied long
time reader.

Thanks,
