If you don't want to run it on a Windows machine, which I assumed to be much 
easier for you to get access to, then you could ask the hosting service to 
insmod the kernel module for you.  If they refuse, then yes you're stuck.

If you use one of the other distributions listed at the URL above, you'll have 
more documentation about what to do, but typically yes, you put the network 
interface device numbers in the parm file to make getting to the actual 
installation part easier.
