This just has to be disaster waiting to happen - as per the initial
post.

And don't be too keen to rush over and do the attach. [f]sync (in
general) _doesn't_ force the changed data to disk - it merely schedules
the I/O. Big difference.

This is also true of ext[34]. XFS may well offer other benefits as
David alludes.
