We change /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/properties/wasprofile.properties to put logs elsewhere (variable WS_CMT_LOG_HOME) and profiles elsewhere (variable WS_PROFILE_REGISTRY and WS_WSPROFILE_DEFAULT_PROFILE_HOME) .
Put then somewhere like /var/was or /app/was or whatever your installation standard is for application data. The default in /opt/IBM is not a great option.
