Hi, I am trying to figure out what is best setup for us. We would like to
use thin provisioning which is available on XIV (on our FCP LUNs).
Unfortunately it does not work very good with ext3 file system. To reclaim
some space I have to "zero out" free space first (after removing files)
and than it takes weeks(!)
for XIV to reclaim some unused space.

XIV redbooks suggest using Veritas Storage Fundation which is unavailable
in sles11 for Z.

I know that this whole Storage Fundation is based on JFS2 which .... has
been removed in SLES11 which we are currently migrating to...

Does anyone over here use thin provisioning? What is your solution?

I thought actually about moving jfsutils from sles10 to sles11. Should
work. Or even creating my filesystem on sles10 and then just switch them to
sles11.

I wonder if oracle would mind hmmm (they hate whenever we do something
different).

Thanks
Gregory Powiedziuk
