Thanks I found my gun I had the disks linked RW by another ID and the whole in my foot is much better now

Please note that the use of partitions is mandatory for CDL formatted DASDs (/dev/dasdx1 instead of /dev/dasdx). By not using a partition, the filesystem on the DASD will get corrupted, which can also result in it being re-mounted read-only.
