There are hardware architecture differences (e.g., the way numbers are stored, etc.) between Intel and System z. Of course, applications can be written to handle these differences, but they would need to tested in both types of environments. Since they probably don't have free access to System z, the vendor may not wish to invest the time and money needed support System z.
