Leland, SuSE told me that in bnc#859225. They dropped the changes meaning they don't revert the patch. Instead development added a series of fixes.
The new set of patches were build March 11th, so the mailinglist was just not updated with that information yet. The crucial patch development added is patches.suse/mm-vmscan-Do-not-force-reclaim-file-pages-until-it-exceeds-anon.patch which reduces the impact of the swap protection by force scanning file LRU. It should act as a previous revert with the load we are seeing. Other patches shouldn't matter much for this load but they are good in general and they have passed development's testing with swap sensitive workloads so the risk of the regression is low. After the successful testing of a customer, the patches were pushed to the SLE11-SP3 branch. A future update is due soon and it will include the patches. ________________________ Mike O'Reilly IBM Linux Change Team Leland Lucius <llucius@homerow. net> To Sent by: Linux on LINUX-390@vm.marist.edu, 390 Port cc <linux-...@vm.mar ist.edu> Subject Re: SLES 11 SP3 problems 03/13/2014 12:39 PM Please respond to Linux on 390 Port <linux-...@vm.mar ist.edu> Wanted to follow up. Just today we FINALLY got the patched kernel (3.0.101-0.15.1.6580.16.PTF.859225) from Novell (unbelievable saga!!!). Changelog shows these changes: * Tue Mar 11 2014 sto...@suse.de - patches.suse/mm-vmscan-Update-rotated-and-scanned-when-force-reclaimed.patch patches.suse/mm-vmscan-fix-endless-loop-in-kswapd-balancing.patch patches.suse/mm-vmscan-Do-not-force-reclaim-file-pages-until-it-exceeds-anon.patch patches.suse/mm-page-writeback.c-do-not-count-anon-pages-as-dirtyable-memory.patch bnc#859225 I wonder why that differed from yours?
