I guess I did wander a bit from z, did not think about it.....but thanks,
anyway.

Latest: the problems all emanated from the GRUB loader, and where it was
installing, a known situation if you google " Because of the partitioning, the
boot loader cannot be installed properly." AND, yes, a situation that would
not have occurred had I not strayed from the righteous z path.

I also appreciate the links from Berthold Gunreben, good info.

And glad to know the 2nd DVD is source.

I shall head to the golf course and ponder this over beer. See you Monday.

Thanks all.

That doesn't sound like AutoYast, rather someone used SUSE Studio to build an
appliance. But of course I could be wrong since I don't have the media on hand.

Sounds like you've strayed far away from System z. :) I think you need to
open up a service request for this. Preferably with both the vendor and your
Linux service provider, since I think everyone involved is going to have to
understand how the media was created and what's going on during the install
process.

If you use a DL DVD, it will fit, since those hold 8.4G. Of course you need a
DVD burner capable of handling that media. That's all source code anyway, so
it's not really needed for installation.
