Echoing what M. Post said earlier - please do not use the Marist Linux
distribution for s390 to evaluate Linux on System Z. It does not reflect
the current state of what you get from the Linux distributors any longer.
There have been huuuuuge changes to how Linux itself handles enumerating
I/O devices as well as hardware feature exploitation.

You will not get a clear understanding of how modern Linux on Z works this
way. It will seem more difficult and less capable that it currently is.

Both RedHat and SUSE will happily provide you install media downloads for
their enterprise offerings as well as support to get them working if you
just ask their sales people nicely. If you want to try one of the community
supported versions Mark mentioned those are great options too.

On the other hand, if you're into operating system archaeology or this is a
science project - then carry on. :)
