Good tip, Rob. With Sles11sp2, installing the libdfp-devel was enough to pull in the library, too. When I tried to install from the SDK, I got a version mismatch.
The header files look like a pretty good start for documentation. I wonder if this library can use the much-vaunted (on Google) Z-10 hw floating point decimal capablilities, and if so - whether this require any compiler switches.
