It means that an operating system running in an LPAR has no programmatic access
to the DVD reader in the HMC. (The one known exception is z/VM.) You have to
use a network-based installation server to install Linux in an LPAR.
Linux/UNIX is best. Windows and z/OS have been known to be made to work. I
seem to recall someone even got the z/VM FTP server to work _with_ the HMC DVD
reader. But again, from the Linux perspective, that's a network-based install.

Looking toward the future, the IBM developers have been working on an open
source means to make this happen. It's been tied up in IBM Legal for a while,
but should be making an appearance before too long. The Linux installation
routines won't pick that up immediately, but there might be a way to hack
around that in the meantime.
