I agree. I also think it would be good to mention it in the virtualization cookbooks. AFAIK, I don't see any reference to this anywhere in the manuals that I have looked at. I reported your comments as well as Martin's to SUSE level 2 support. For now, I will test setting most of my guests to 'hardware clock set to UTC' and then update via NTP to be sure but at least, this makes them boot up with the correct time early in the boot process and doesn't depend on NTP being up to have the correct system time.
