For anyone upgrading, it should be noting that the info for APAR’s VM65942/ VM65868 seem to missing part of the info provided by Bruce above. You must take the new SAPL that is created on maint630's 490 disk and copy it to MAINT's CF1 before trying to bring the system up. We got lucky as our system was part of a SSI cluster across systems. That gave us the ability to move SAPL onto CF1 and get past this. Also worth noting. If you get new OSA 6S cards, don't forget to check and get all the fixes for TCPIP too: http://www.vm.ibm.com/related/tcpip/tcpapars.html
With the info above now really understood at our shop, I think the rest of our upgrades should go pretty well.
